        2012 BMW 5 Series

BMW has always been a top innovator in the luxury car market, and the 2012 BMW 5 Series is no exception. For 2012, the 5 Series has been updated with a new engine and new technology to maximize performance and fuel efficiency, while still delivering a top-notch combination of comfort, style, and agility sure to satisfy both BMW enthusiasts and luxury driving fans everywhere.

The 2012 BMW 5 Series is available in three trims, each with different engine sizes: the 528i, the 535i, and the 550i. Each trim is also available with optional "xDrive" all-wheel drive. The biggest news for 2012 is that BMW has resized the engine on the entry-level 528i, swapping out the regular 3.0L inline-6 engine for a more fuel-efficient

turbocharged 2.0L four cylinder. Thanks to BMW's new twin-scroll turbocharger technology, the new four cylinder engine produces 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque which, despite its smaller size, makes this engine actually more powerful than the six cylinder in last year's 528i. Combined with the new automatic stop/start technology that stops the engine when the car is not moving, the 2012 528i is one of the most fuel-efficient midsize luxury vehicles available. The rear-wheel drive 528i boasts an impressive EPA estimate of 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway.

The 528i comes standard with all the luxury features you'd expect from BMW, including 17-inch wheels, automatic xenon headlights, sunroof, automatic windshield wipers, heated and auto-dimming mirrors, power seats, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, and a 10-speaker stereo system with iPod interface.

The 535i and the 550i, on the other hand, keep their powerful six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines, respectively, and add some luxury and safety features as standard. The 535i comes standard with the new automatic start/stop feature, as well as 18-inch wheels and leather upholstery. The 3.0L turbocharged six-cylinder in the 535i is capable of 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. The 550i has a turbocharged 4.4L V8 engine capable of 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. It adds front and rear parking sensors, rearview camera, and navigation system.

The added features of the 550i and 535i are available as options on the lower trims. Other options available on all trim levels include safety and convenience features like keyless ignition and entry, automatic parallel parking, lane-drift and blind-spot warnings, and infrared night-vision displays. More luxury-oriented upgrades include heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, power or manual sunshades, backseat entertainment

  system, and premium audio system.

All models come standard with the iDrive technology, a specially-designed user interface featuring an LCD dashboard display, a configurable gauge-cluster display, and a controller knob on the center console. The iDrive consolidates the controls and buttons on the dashboard, allowing for an interior and dashboard design that is neat, clean, and user-friendly.

With its impressive safety ratings, fuel-efficient yet powerful design, and traditional combination of comfort, innovation, and performance, the 2012 BMW 5 Series stands tall. Anyone in the market for a midsize luxury car should test drive the 2012 5 Series.
