New on U.S. shores this model year, BMW is finally bringing over its compact crossover from Europe. The 2013 BMW X1 is the perfect crossover and a smaller alternative to the BMW X3.
There are several models available. The base model, the 2013 BMW X1 sDrive28i is powered by a 240-horsepower 2.0-liter four cylinder engine. The next upgrade is the xDrive28i and boosts it to all-wheel-drive. Both of these 2.0-liter engines are equipped with a gas-saving stop-start system. The top-of-the-line xDrive35i is all-wheel-drive and has a 300-horsepower, 3.0-liter inline V6 under the hood. An eight-speed automatic is standard on all models.
There are other subtle changes between the trim levels. The base sDrive28i has EPS electrically assisted steering while the two xDrives offer hydraulically assisted steering. Both prove the 2013 BMW X1 has great maneuverability.
Although it's just as powerful, the 2013 BMW X1 is smaller than the BMW X3. At just under 15 feet long and five foot nine inches wide, it still has plenty of room for adults of any size. It even has a cargo capacity of 14.8 cubic feet with the seats in use and 47.7 cubic feet with the seats folded down. It has more ground clearance, about seven inches, and a lower roofline than its top competitors in the market.
Two interior/exterior trim packages are available: the xLine and the Sport Line which each have unique grille inserts, dash accents, wheels, and more. The optional M Sport package gets, among other features, Performance Control. This delivers a 20-to-80 front-to-rear torque split which replicates the feeling of driving rear-wheel drive. Rain-sensing wipers, iDrive, and an eight speaker stereo are all standard.
The 2013 BMW X1 is the perfect vehicle for seasoned BMW drivers and new converts looking for a fun crossover.
